Covnention Breaking

The Vogue cover is always a sign for an "it" issue. I mean, we can all agree that when we see a new face on the cover of Vogue - it means that we are looking on an "it girl". This february, we can see Lena Dunham on the cover. Dunham is the creator and director of Girls (HBO) which came up with the third season last week, looks fantastic on the main page of the magazine. However, the only thing that bothers me and I assume it bothers many more - why is it only a head shot? Why can't we see Lena's body? In most of her photos you could always see her plus size figure, she has a point by showing her figure like that, so provocative even, sometimes. It is all about showing who she really is, an amazing young talented woman, who got famous by being only herself. What you see is what you get kind of feeling. Most of her appearances were definitely about not hiding her body, and here at the prestigious Vogue magazine we can see an amazing shot of Dunham, bodyless. I find it weird, in a way. I mean, Vogue has its own reputation but if you're going to use a character like Dunham why not use the whole thing? Even in her show you can see how comfortable she feels with her body. In my opinion it could have been much stronger to do a full body shot. From a different point of view, being on the cover of Vogue is a big deal, no doubt about that, so maybe it does make sense. Nevertheless there are rumors about Anna Wintour (editor-in-chief of Vogue) trying to break the internal thin era with Dunham, you could figure that out perfectly from this shot, that's for sure. After a little research, I found out that most of the Vogue covers are facials. When it comes to non-model figures, like Jennifer Lawrence, which is absolutely stunning, but sure is not the model type figure. When you stumble upon covers that use full body shots it would mostly sum up to models like Miranda Kerr or Gisele Bundchen. I guess some things will never change, not in the fashion industry. We like to criticize it a lot, but nothing will change since we like it just the way it is.
